Helping a person who needs it?

I was in a cl today and after, we all talk for the few minutes before our next cl. Today I decided to go talk to a boy I hadn't talked to much, just for the heck of it. At first he seemed extremely cynical, but I truly thought he was kidding and I dismissed it. Later, I noticed that he was truly upset. He was mad enough to honestly kill, and I wouldn't joke about that since I've known people who have been murdered. He told me about his abusive father, and about how he's even been so upset as to hold a letter opener to someone's throat. I want to help him, especially since I want to become a psychologist. Is there anything I can do? He says that therapists tend to clify him and hand him a bottle of pills as a 'solution' that doesn't really help anything. I want to truly help, no matter what danger I may be putting myself in. Is there something I can do?
